1. Monday 20th of August:
According to the OECD (Office of Economic Cooperation and Development), companies that conduct data analysis record an extra 49% increase in their revenue. Canada is looking to boost productivity using Big Data analysis.
The goal is to make companies aware of the potential results:

– Get insights to understand consumers.
– Analyse, in real time, consumer behaviours.
– Forecast financial results.
– Make well though-out decisions.

For Canada, Big Data management is essential to keeping a competitive edge in the 21st century.
Source

2. Tuesday 21st of August:
A piece of data only partially reflects reality. A monitoring tool links the “big data” and the “analysis” phases, for it will translate as much information as needed into synthesizable indicators for the users. The analysis phase of the information is essential to efficiently use the data. This is how substantial projects are correctly carried out through efficient objective setting processes.
Source

3. Wednesday 22nd of August:
Today, threats to the Internet neutrality in France lead a fierce debate online. 1,543 messages have been published in less than 24 h since it was announced that the ARCEP (Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Posts) and the CSA (Superior Advisory for Broadcasts) were going to merge. Internet users favored Twitter over Facebook to express their dissatisfaction: the micro-blogging platform accounted for 84% of the messages related to the topic and published on the French Web.
Source : Institut TrendyBuzz

4. Thursday 23rd of August:
Youtube is launching a platform dedicated to the presidential elections. The sharing website will not actually produce any content but will provide a place to follow up on debates and conventions. Channels specialised in the production of political content will also feed the program. This highlights how much Youtube has become a major and reliable source of information.
Source

5. Friday 24th of August:
Aurora Clark, a Washington University researcher, used Google’s PageRank algorithm to map water molecules. The PageRank measures the popularity of a web page by blending the number and the authority of the links directed to it. Applying this methodology to molecular research should allow for more precise experiences, through the isolation of specific water molecules. Professor Clark believes that this will improve the production of medication, diagnosis processes and more generally the analysis of all medical reactions related to water.
Source

“The Community Manager’s work is often assessed on his followers count, but interaction-related Key Performance Indicators (Request Trackers, mentions, recommendations) should be taken into account.”

Each day 15 000 new sources are added to the corpus and create a vast web crawling network. TrendyBuzz’s proprietary technology enables the indexation of two thirds of those sources in complete autonomy every hour.”
e-Reputation specialist TrendyBuzz aims at providing solutions to articulate the monitoring of real-time information; its technology automatically gathers and visually displays the analysis of online discourse.

Fabien Grenier, managing director of TrendyBuzz, indicates that real-time information monitoring is the key to successful e-reputation management. To do so, TrendyBuzz has developed a powerful technology that monitors both influent actors (online medias), and casual internet users (blogs, social networks, forums). The interest lies in the possibility to trace information spread online.

The corpus of TrendyBuzz, Trendy Panel, is composed of 4 500 000 heterogeneous active sources (from news sites, e-communities, social networks, comments, institutions…). Each day 15 000 new sources are added to the corpus which create a vast web crawling network. TrendyBuzz’s proprietary technology enables the indexation of two thirds of those sources in complete autonomy every hour.

TrendyBuzz has already created a buzz during the 2012 presidential elections. In partnership with Libération, the Institute launched Polititvox, a continuous observatory for political news in France. The goal is to compare, in real-time, citizens’ spontaneous interest in politicians and the current affairs that are most visible on the internet. That way Politivox observed a strong correlation between the two points of view. Jean-Luc Mélenchon is a prime example of this: during his campaign, as his visibility increased on the internet, so did the percentage of intent of vote for him. This finding enabled the anticipation of tendencies, even if Fabien Grenier specified that internet users’ opinions cannot globally reflect those of the French population.

After a few weeks of ecstatic remarks, most comments online turned negative, and remain so today.

Mid-january, Free generated quite a buzz with its dramatic entrance into the field of mobile telephony. “The day of the announcement, 10% of the overall messages published on the French-speaking was dedicated to Free Mobile (blog posts, articles, forum discussions, or Facebook comments). 90% of them were positive in tone,“ highlights Fabien Grenier, managing director of TrendyBuzz Institute; an outstanding performance.
Since then, repetitive bugs slowly deteriorated the enthusiasm. “We collected all online discussions about ‘Free Mobile’ then analysed them to measure the amount of malfunctions reported“, explains Fabien Grenier. The result is that negative messages have kept on increasing, as illustrated in the graph below.

The problems (late deliveries, difficulties to make calls…) represented 22% of Free Mobile related discussions in January, 33% in February and up to 53% in March as recorded by TrendyBuzz.

In logical continuation, the network of Xavier Niel’s group had two important failures last month. End of March, the Capital magazine disclosed that up to 46% of the attempted calls failed between 6pm and 9pm in Paris and Lyon; more than enough to feed online dissatisfaction.

Free promised the problems would be resolved by mid-April. On the 11th, Maxime Lombardini, managing director of Iliad, announced to the newspaper Le Monde this had been carried out; but internet users have not stopped talking about it. In April one third of online discussions continued to mention network failures…

TrendyBuzz platform will be used by WWF communication teams to collect and analyze in near real-time, online messages mentioning the Foundation. This project matches TrendyBuzz expertise in web marketing and communication.

Jacques-Olivier Barthes, Communications Director for WWF France, adds that «this partnership is fully in line with the «engaging hundred of millions» international communication strategy unveiled at the annual worldwide WWF conference, held from May 1 to 5 in Saint-Gallen (Switzerland).
Indeed, social media, and social networks in particular, have been identified as key leverages to mobilize public opinion and invole every one of us into providing, for future generations, a healthy, living planet. Mobilization requires, first and foremost, for us to have a precise overview of the state of our eReputation.»

WWF is one of the world’s largest and most respected independent conservation organizations, with over five million supporters and a global network active in more than 100 countries. Since it was founded in 1973, WWF France has strived to trigger palpable change. Action-oriented, its approach relies on dialogue, consultation and partnership.

TrendyBuzz, Pureplayer Institute launched in partnership with Libération l’observatoire de l’actualité politique (the Observatory for Political News), whose objective is to measure, in real-time, citizens’ spontaneous interest in politicians or current affairs on the internet.

TrendyBuzz technology constantly scans over 1 400 000 sources (institutional websites, news sites, blogs, forums, social networks) to measure the IVU (Internet Visibility Units) generated by politicians or by the most debated topics on the internet.

«Politivox is for us a chance to make public a scientific tool via an easy-to-use, appealing dashboard» summarizes Ludovic Blecher, Director of Liberation digital editions.

Politivox.liberation.fr is updated 24/7. Dynamic charts are visualised through interactive curves and a click on «Le match» module will outline the politicians’ communications strategies with regard to current affairs. The aim is to measure, in just a click, how political parties cleave on key issues for the 2012 presidential campaign (e.g. unemployment, security, purchasing power, the « golden rule » …)

« Throughout the campaign, Politivox will be a mean for us to challenge and check the extent to which the themes put forward by the candidates find an echo on the web » says Ludovic Blecher.

TrendyBuzz Institute will publish weekly syntheses on its blog, measuring the discrepancies between journalists’ editorial choices and the citizens’ interests.

Christian Blanchas relied on the latest Attention Rate Barometer to analyse banks’ communication strategies and their impacts on internet users. He came to the conclusion that in spite of its effort at communicating, the banking sector is no longer able to catch French people’s attention – a situation that typically calls for crisis communication solutions. What is the best advice for a bank faced with customers that won’t listen anymore? Keep quiet? How about following the example set by Toyota?
